Spain

Fiesta, siesta and everything between.

BeachCity BreakFamilyCultureIslandsFood

Spain never asks you to choose. Gaudí’s unfinished basilica and eleven-o’clock beach mornings; Moorish palaces in Andalusia and jamón carved thin as paper; islands for families and islands for dancing until dawn. Few countries do so many kinds of holiday this well, and fewer still do them with dinner at ten and the evening paseo built into daily life.

From the UAE the classic shapes are city-plus-island — Barcelona into Mallorca, Madrid into the south — or a full Andalusian circuit of Seville, Córdoba and Granada with the Alhambra as the finale. Summer belongs to the coasts; spring and autumn belong to the cities, when the plazas are warm and the queues are short.
