The trip
Overview
Croatia's Dalmatian coast was made for hopping: a chain of limestone islands strung between Split and Dubrovnik, linked by fast catamaran ferries that turn transfer days into sightseeing. This week works down the chain — two nights in Split inside a Roman palace that became a city, two on Hvar among lavender fields and harbour glamour, two on quieter Korčula, and a Dubrovnik finale before the flight home.
From the UAE the connection is short and simple, with direct seasonal services from Dubai to the Croatian coast in summer and easy one-stop routings otherwise. June and September are the local secret — the sea is warm, the ferries run full schedules, and the old towns belong to people rather than crowds.
Highlights
- ✦Split's old town built inside Diocletian's Roman palace walls
- ✦Hvar town's fortress viewpoint and the Pakleni island lagoons by taxi boat
- ✦The car-free medieval streets of Korčula town
- ✦Swimming off pebble coves at every single stop
- ✦Walking the full circuit of Dubrovnik's city walls at opening time
Who it suits
- ●Couples and groups of friends who want movement without airports between stops
- ●Swimmers — the Adriatic in late summer is as clear as water gets
- ●UAE residents using the September window when crowds thin and the sea stays warm
Why this journey works
- ✓Ferries replace flights and drives — every transfer is a deck seat with a view
- ✓Four stops in seven nights, each with its own character, none repeated
- ✓Split in, Dubrovnik out means the route never doubles back
Day by day
Days 1–2
Split — the palace that became a city
Fly from Dubai into Split — direct in summer, one stop otherwise — and walk into an old town literally built within a Roman emperor's retirement palace. Two nights: the cathedral bell tower, the Riva promenade at aperitivo hour, a morning swim at Bačvice or beneath the pines of Marjan hill, and dinner in a courtyard konoba grilling the day's catch.
Days 3–4
Hvar — lavender hills and lagoon swimming
An hour's catamaran brings you to Hvar town. Climb to the Spanish Fortress for the harbour panorama, take a taxi boat to the Pakleni islands for lagoon swimming and a beach-shack lunch, and drive inland if you are curious — the lavender plateau and abandoned hamlet of Malo Grablje repay the detour. Evenings range from wine bars to full glamour; you choose the register.
Days 5–6
Korčula — the quiet middle chapter
Another short ferry south to Korčula, a pocket Dubrovnik without the volume. Two slower nights: the herringbone lanes of the walled town, a tasting of the island's own grk and pošip whites in a family vineyard, kayaking or a swim off Badija island among the monastery pines, and sword-dance folklore if a performance falls on your dates.
Day 7
Dubrovnik — the finale
The morning catamaran lands you in Dubrovnik with a full day ahead. Walk the complete circuit of the walls as soon as they open, ride the cable car up Srđ for the postcard aerial view, and finish with dinner just outside the old town where prices soften and terraces face the sunset. One night, deliberately — the city is best in a concentrated dose.
Day 8
Home to the UAE
Transfer fifteen minutes to the airport and fly back to Dubai.
When to go
The hopping season runs May to October, with full catamaran schedules from June. July and August bring the warmest sea and the biggest crowds — book ferries and hotels months ahead. June and September are the connoisseur's choice: sea temperatures in the mid-twenties, everything open, old towns breathing freely. Outside the season many island hotels and routes pause entirely.
