The trip
Overview
Pack the car on a Friday and you can have mountains, wadis and the Indian Ocean before Monday. This route strings together the UAE's two best non-city landscapes — Hatta's highland dam country and Fujairah's Al Aqah coast — with the drives themselves doing real work: switchbacks, date-farm villages, and the moment the Gulf of Oman appears between two ridgelines.
The rhythm is one night in the mountains, two by the sea. Hatta contributes kayaks on the dam and an evening of highland cool; the East Coast answers with snorkelling, beach hours and seafood. Total driving is modest — no leg exceeds two hours — which makes this the rare road trip where the journey is a feature and never a chore.

- ✦No single drive over two hours, no flights, no packing twice for climate

Day by day
Day 1
Dubai to Hatta
Ninety minutes from the city to the mountains. Arrive by mid-morning, kayak the dam before lunch, and spend the afternoon in the Heritage Village or on an easy trail. The night is the trip's coolest — literally — in a mountain lodge with the ridges black against the stars.
Day 2
Over the range to the ocean
The best driving day: out of Hatta and across to the East Coast road, pausing at Masafi's roadside fruit market as tradition demands, dropping to the coast near Dibba. You are at an Al Aqah beach resort by early afternoon with the Indian Ocean in front of the room. Beach until sunset; seafood for dinner.
Days 3–4
The coast, then home along it
A full East Coast day — the guided snorkel in the morning while the water is clearest, then pool, beach and nothing. On the final morning, a last swim and the return drive: around two hours back to Dubai, or the long way south past Khorfakkan's corniche for those not ready to finish.
When to go
October to April is the window where both halves shine — Hatta needs the cool months, and the coast is at its most comfortable. Hatta's activity operations reduce over summer, so warm-season versions of this trip tilt the balance further toward the beach. Eid and mid-term dates need early booking on the East Coast.
