The trip

Overview

Greek-island cruising solves the problem every island-hopper knows: the ferries, the luggage, the lost half-days in port queues. Sail from Piraeus instead and the islands come to you — Mykonos one morning, Santorini the next, with Crete, Rhodes or one of the quieter Cyclades in between, depending on the sailing we book. Whatever routing appears in brochures, the itinerary we confirm is the one your actual ship sails.

Around six hours of flying from Dubai puts you in Athens, and most sailings let you add a night in the city first — worth doing for the Acropolis alone. On board, the week alternates big-name islands with lesser-known calls, and because distances in the Aegean are short, many sailings are in port nearly every day.

It is a strong choice for couples and for families with teenagers: enough famous scenery to impress everyone, enough structure that nobody has to plan anything after breakfast.

Highlights

  • Possible calls at Mykonos, Santorini, Crete and Rhodes depending on the sailing
  • Port-intensive Aegean routings — often a new island almost every day
  • Athens and the Acropolis as a natural pre-cruise add-on
  • One unpack instead of a week of ferry timetables
  • Evenings at sea between whitewashed harbour towns

Who it suits

  • Couples who want the postcard islands without ferry logistics
  • Families with teens who need variety built into every day
  • First-time Mediterranean cruisers starting with the prettiest sea in Europe

Why this journey works

  • Short Aegean distances mean port-heavy itineraries and little wasted time
  • Athens is an easy direct flight from the UAE with sensible timings
  • The ship removes the packing, ferries and hotel-hopping of DIY island travel

Day by day

  1. Day 1

Dubai to Athens, ship by afternoon

Direct morning flights from Dubai or Abu Dhabi reach Athens around midday. A pre-booked transfer takes you to Piraeus, and you are on deck for sail-away past the Saronic Gulf. If your dates allow, we suggest flying in a day early for the Acropolis and a Plaka dinner.

  2. Days 2–7

    The Aegean, island by island

The heart of the week is a run of island calls whose exact order and mix depend on the selected sailing: Mykonos for the windmills and Little Venice, Santorini for the caldera rim between Fira and Oia, Heraklion or Chania for Knossos and Venetian harbours, Rhodes for its walled medieval town. Some routings add a Turkish coast call such as Kusadasi for Ephesus, or a quieter island like Milos. Tender ports and sea time vary by ship — we brief you honestly on both before you book.

  3. Day 8

    Piraeus and home

Back alongside in Piraeus in the early morning, with transfers to Athens airport timed to the afternoon flight home to the UAE — or stay on for an Athens city night if you left the Acropolis for the end.

Best Good Possible Less suitableSeasons are guidance, never a weather guarantee.

The Aegean season runs roughly April to November. July and August are hottest and busiest — fine for beach-first travellers, less so for ruins at midday. May, June, September and October are the months we usually steer UAE clients towards: warm seas, softer light and cooler sightseeing, with October doubling as a genuine escape from the tail of the Gulf summer.
