The trip
Overview
Langkawi plays golf in a setting few destinations can match: fairways cut through ancient rainforest, monkeys and hornbills in the trees, and the Andaman Sea appearing between the trunks. The Els Club Teluk Datai — a walkable, buggy-optional Ernie Els design with no bunkers and jungle on every side — is the round that brings golfers here, and it is worth the trip on its own.
This five-night shape adds Gunung Raya, the mountain-foothill course at the centre of the island, and leaves the rest of the time for what Langkawi does best — quiet beaches, the mangrove kayak trips and the cable car up Mat Cincang. Kuala Lumpur's direct Emirates link makes the connection simple, with the short domestic hop timed to your arrival.
Tee sheets on the island are small and seasonal, which is exactly why we verify access before you commit: every course here is a suggested set, requested and confirmed club by club.

Why this journey works
- ✓Teluk Datai is routinely rated among the most scenic courses in Asia
- ✓Five nights carries three unhurried rounds plus real island time
- ✓Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur is a comfortable one-stop from Dubai
Day by day
Days 1–2
Arrive on island time
Fly Dubai to Kuala Lumpur and hop across to Langkawi — the connection adds under two hours in the air. Settle into a resort on the Datai Bay side if the golf leads, or Pantai Cenang if the evenings matter more. Day two opens at the Els Club Teluk Datai: no bunkers, rainforest corridors, and the sea at the far turn.
Days 3–4
Island day, then Gunung Raya
A full free day for the Kilim geoforest mangroves by boat, the SkyCab cable car and the sky bridge, or simply the beach. Day four plays Gunung Raya through the foothills at the island's centre — quieter, hillier, and a different kind of green.
Days 5–6
Datai encore and home
The closing round returns to Teluk Datai — most groups insist — with the afternoon kept for the spa or a last swim. Fly out via Kuala Lumpur next morning; a night in KL on the way home is an easy add if you want the towers and the food courts.

When to go
November to April is Langkawi's driest stretch and the best golf window; May to October brings heavier, mostly afternoon rain with quieter courses and softer rates between showers. September and October are the wettest months and we generally route golf groups elsewhere then. UAE winter breaks land in the sweet spot.
