The trip

Overview

Muscat is the easiest 'abroad' a UAE golfer can reach: under an hour in the air from Dubai, or a road trip of around four and a half hours if you would rather drive your own clubs across. Waiting at the other end is Al Mouj Golf, the seaside links that has hosted the Oman Open — a genuine championship test laid along the Gulf of Oman with the Hajar mountains behind.

Four nights carries three rounds comfortably: two at Al Mouj, where the wind gives you a different course each day, and one at Ghala Golf Club, the city course cut through a wadi that also offers floodlit evening play. Between rounds, Muscat does what Dubai cannot — the Mutrah souq, the old harbour forts and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, all with a slower pulse.

Course access in Oman is generally welcoming but never assumed on our itineraries: tee times are requested and verified before you book, with alternatives quoted where a slot cannot be secured.

Highlights

  • Al Mouj Golf — Oman Open venue links on the Gulf of Oman
  • A second crack at Al Mouj with the wind rearranged
  • Ghala Golf Club wadi golf, with floodlit evening play available
  • Mutrah souq and the old harbour corniche
  • Drive-across option — take your own clubs, no flight required

Who it suits

  • UAE residents who want a passport stamp without a long-haul flight
  • Golfers curious about the Oman Open venue they have seen on tour coverage
  • Mixed couples — Old Muscat gives non-golfers a genuine two days

Why this journey works

  • A tour-venue links under an hour from Dubai by air
  • The drive-across option means your own clubs and no baggage fees
  • Muscat's old town culture is a real counterweight to the golf

Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Across to Muscat

Fly from Dubai or Abu Dhabi in under an hour, or drive the Hatta–Al Ain corridor with the mountains for company. Check into a beachfront hotel by the Al Mouj marina district — the course, the marina restaurants and your room end up within a few minutes of each other.

  2. Day 2

    Al Mouj, first look

Morning round on the Oman Open links: seaside holes, firm run-outs and a finish along the water. Lunch at the marina, then an afternoon at the pool or an early visit to the Royal Opera House district. Access unverified — tee times confirmed before you pay.

  3. Day 3

    Old Muscat day, golf optional

The rest day earns its place: Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque early, Mutrah souq and the corniche after lunch, dinner near the old harbour beneath the Portuguese forts. Golfers wanting more can take a floodlit evening nine at Ghala as a priced option.

  4. Day 4

Ghala wadi golf and Al Mouj again

Morning at Ghala Golf Club, the established city course routed through a wadi — a complete contrast to the links. Keen groups close with a second Al Mouj round in the afternoon sea breeze; others keep the evening for the marina.

  5. Day 5

    Home by lunch

Breakfast, a last walk on the beach, and the short hop or scenic drive back to the UAE — most groups are home before the weekend traffic builds.

Best Good Possible Less suitableSeasons are guidance, never a weather guarantee.

October to April is prime Muscat golf, with winter temperatures a few degrees gentler than Dubai and a reliable sea breeze at Al Mouj. Summer is as hot as the UAE — this is a winter-season product, though floodlit evening golf at Ghala keeps shoulder months workable. Eid weekends book out early.
